Workshop
The 2025 IGRI Doctoral Workshop will take place February 9-12 at the Center for Behavior, Institutions, and the Environment (CBIE) at Arizona State University in Tempe, Arizona. This workshop is open to students enrolled in Ph.D. programs. It is designed to complement the Institutional Analysis training offered from January 6-29 and provide a more in-depth learning experience guided by experts in the IG and institutional analysis, including the opportunity to verify any IG-related coding puzzles students have encountered in their dissertation research.

This two-day workshop brings together scholars who are interested in reimagining the role of the state in governing the commons, and the types of analytical frameworks and tools to help extend this area of research. The workshop will focus primarily on new insights coming from work on state-reinforced self governance (SRSG) and the Institutional Grammar (IG), as well as how these two approaches can inform one another.

It is designed to complement the Institutional Analysis training offered from January 8 to January 31 and provide a more in-depth learning experience guided by experts in the IG and institutional analysis, including the opportunity to verify any IG-related coding puzzles students have encountered in their dissertation research.

Following the success of last year’s Graduate Student Workshop at the University of Colorado Denver, the 2023 IGRI Doctoral Workshop will take place May 21-24 at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology in Gjøvik, Norway. This workshop will be targeted towards students enrolled in Ph.D. programs. It is designed to complement the Institutional Analysis training offered from April 22 to May 24 and provide a more in-depth learning experience guided by experts in the IG and institutional analysis, including the opportunity to verify any IG-related coding puzzles students have encountered in their dissertation research.

This workshop covers the intellectual foundations of the Institutional Grammar (IG). Participants will receive an overview of an updated version of the Institutional Grammar, called the Institutional Grammar 2.0, as well as an introduction to the operational encoding of institutional statements.
