Home » IGRI Research Seminars » Advancing Institutional Theory & Analysis: Current Initiatives Extending the Ostrom Research Agenda

January 19, 2021

Special Event:

SPECIAL EVENT (12-1:30 pm Eastern/New York)

Speaker(s):

Moderator: Edella Schlager (University of Arizona) Presenters: Tine de Moor (Institutions for Collective Action/Erasmus University, The Netherlands); Marco Janssen (Center for Behavior, Institutions, and the Environment (CBIE)/Arizona State University); John Anderies (Library on Governance of Social-Ecological Systems/Arizona State University); Scott Shackelford (Ostrom Workshop/Indiana University); Saba Siddiki (IGRI/Syracuse University).

Abstract:

The research of Vincent and Elinor Ostrom has inspired scholars from around the world and from various disciplines to investigate the institutions that communities use to govern behavior and connected social-ecological systems. This special presentation explores how the Ostroms’ work on institutional theory and analysis is being extended in novel ways through various initiatives, programs, and research centers. The presentation will be moderated by Dr. Edella Schlager, who will open the panel with an overview of key foci of the Ostroms’ research agenda. The panel will then feature presentations by scholars involved with the Institutions for Collective Action Program; the Center for Behavior, Institutions, and the Environment; the Library on Governance in Social-Ecological Systems; the Institutional Grammar Research Initiative, and the Ostrom Workshop. Presenters will discuss the missions of their respective groups, what they view as key innovations in institutional theory and analysis, and how their research teams are addressing these.
